Reflections
Looking back... Forging ahead.
Creating a digital portfolio is a great way to take inventory of what I have done and what I have yet to do. The activities each week built our strengths and confidence and finally culminated in a portfolio we can take pride in. Having made other sites in the past I knew the amount of time that would go into a project like this, but found even my most conservative projections were still gross underestimates. I appreciate the opportunity this class offered because it will undoubtedly shape my final exit portfolio.
Looking back:
Creating shells in several different platforms was a great experience because it forced me to leave my comfort zone. I found things I liked in each platform and wish I could have taken little bits from each! The total redesign was a humbling experience for me. After creating my first site I was confident in my design, the layout, theme, and content and was not sure the point of redesigning something I was happy with. I am so glad you pushed us to take a closer look because I feel my final site is more user friendly, has a better flow, and is a better product than the one I created before. This taught me a valuable lesson-- keep pushing. Even when I think something works, I need to question it, take it apart, and rearrange it.
Forging ahead:
Who knows what this final portfolio will look like come graduation day, 2 months after graduation, or 1 year down the road. The only thing I know for sure is that there will be changes that fill the pages. Changes in the field of Deafness, changes in the kinds of technology and capabilities that exist in the program, and changes in how I see the world and my place in it. This portfolio is a great tool to keep me accountable for where I have been and keep me on target to where I am headed.
